Farbot: Hosting

Subdomains
Recent learning experiences in my new job have taught me how to configure this server to host multiple sites with different names on one server.

This is something I knew was possible but never had figured out exactly how to do. Expert guidance on the subject got me over the hump, and I'm off and running.

So you can look for subdomains of farbot.com to crop up in the future as needed that will go to what seem to be entirely separate sites.

FreeDNS
And there's the FreeDNS DNS system that is interesting in its communal approach to doing name forwarding. It'll even name-forward your domain name (e.g. whatever.com) for free, with one caveat.

If you want to be a free member, you have to allow some or all people to use your domain (e.g. billy.whatever.com, supercoder.whatever.com). You can decline some for abusive, offensive or other reasons, but they expect you to allow most that aren't offensive. You can pay to close that off, but is it really so bad?

download.farbot.com

The file archive has moved to download.farbot.com.

I've set up a rule on www.farbot.com to redirect to it for anything that wants to get a file from what used to be the /download folder. This should prevent outside links (which really shouldn't exist) from breaking for now.
