The Alertbox shares some of its test results where they tracked where a user's eyes go on a few set pages, including a corporate About Us page and a search engine results page.
It shows the user's eyes move in an F-shaped pattern, skipping over large tracts of content while hovering on items in a generally F-shaped pattern over the content.

F for fast. That's how users read your precious content. In a few seconds, their eyes move at amazing speeds across your websites words in a pattern that's very different from what you learned in school.
