Putting Mediawiki to work for you.

NewsForge has an article up on MediaWiki, the wiki engine powering the WikiPedia and other sites.

The short writeup focuses on how to tailor MediaWiki for use in a work environment, restricting adding and editing content to accountholders only, adding in tags to allow embedded PHP content, and other small customizations.

I've toyed with setting up MediaWiki for work, as sort of an org chart search engine that everyone would keep a page for themselves on. It could be very valuable. All those times I've wondered: who do I go to for X? I know I can go to so-and-so for Y, but who else knows about that since so-and-so is out on vacation all this week?
