An August or September 2007 firmware update enabled the use of wallpapers in themes instead of the background animated line.

The free wallpaper offerings on the PlayStation Store come in two sizes:

HD wallpaper: 1920x1080 JPEGs.
SD wallpaper: 1327x1080 JPEGs.
