PSPFanboy is skeptical of this infomercial offering replacement UMD cases for PSP games and movies, but I'll step right up to the plate and agree with the basic premise that the UMD cases for PSP games do come apart relatively easily. A few of my own games have had parts of their UMD cases come loose.

If you were present at the dawn of the use of CD-ROM media in PC's like I was, you'll remember CD caddies. You'd open a caddy, put a CD-ROM in, close it, and slide it into a drive like a cartridge. The PSP's UMD is very similar with two notable exceptions. One, there's no metal cover on the UMD case to protect the disc like CD caddies had and two, CD caddies were very strong while the UMD case is kind of flimsy.

The usual UMD case consists of the white outside "frame" of the UMD along with two clear panels on the front and back. The front panel or back panel on more than a few of my own UMD games has come loose, flexing in and out and probably endangering the disc itself. Sometimes I can flex the case just-so and pop it back into place, but it's really a bad design.

That said, I have no idea if this solution, at four bucks per case, works. The design certainly looks better with just two pieces, but the use of screws worries me a bit. How well threaded will they be and can they come loose inside the PSP? It should be noted that he does not show putting the screws in at all or even what it looks like with the screws installed, which for a nearly five-minute infomercial is pretty telling.

I might pick one up and do it for one of my demo UMDs I don't play anymore just for kicks.
