I was away on vacation over the weekend but I wasn't out of touch. I fired up my Nokia N800 at the hotel and stayed up-to-date with the reviews filtering in and even noticed an entire IGN podcast dedicated to their Grand Theft Auto 4 review. I was surprised to hear that not everyone extolling its virtues -- if virtues can be noted in a GTA game -- was a fan of previous games. Some of them were cool to the franchise and found this new iteration to be just about as great as others on the staff did.

This highlights for me the usefulness of Wombat's GTA4 Tips post on GamesBlog.ugo.com. In it you can find some very useful things to know about being Niko in Liberty City delivered with some fun common-sense humor. For instance, the need to take care when crossing the street:

They should have hammered this into all of you in elementary school, but damn is it important to keep in mind when playing Grand Theft Auto IV. Liberty City’s drivers are certifiably insane and they have no problems racking up a couple of manslaughter charges.
