This dimly lit interior of the Perestroika club from Grand Theft Auto IV is shown with a tough-to-see profile of Niko at the far left with arms outstretched, aiming a weapon. Given that I didn't have anyone with me when I took this picture last night while playing the game on my PS3, you might wonder how I could be shooting and taking the picture at the same time.
The game had frozen during one of the missions, requiring a full reboot of the PS3. While the 1.01 patch might be helping, it hasn't fixed all of the problems with playing the single player game while connected to the PSN, and the real test won't occur until we hit peak gameplay times this weekend. Next patch, please.
Reload the game data?
I've had great success with the game after reinstalling the game data post-patch. Knock wood, it hasn't crashed on me once since then. Hopefully that will work for you, too, so overally I'm happy with the result.
Second freeze-up.
I don't get to play the game much but I had another freeze-up when playing single-player when logged into the PSN last night. It was rather annoying, happening during a mission, so I rebooted and logged out of the PSN to keep playing.
I didn't want to be interrupted anyway, since I'm keen on continuing the story, so I wasn't that bummed about not having PSN support. But I am curious about what Sony is telling people now that the 1.01 patch is out. There's no word on any more patches coming for the PS3 version of the game, either. Is this it? Is this the best that Rockstar and Sony can do?
my only freeze-up
After roughly 6 more hours of play I think this particular freeze-up is the only one I've experienced, online or offline. This is a huge improvement over the pre-patch days. I'm wondering if Rockstar and Sony are happy with where the game is and are working on maybe writing fixes into an update patch later.
What will they sell to us, and will they give us anything free for this mega-selling game? Time will tell.
