PS3 Trials

Maybe two weeks ago, I picked up a refurbished PS3 from Gamestop. It's a 60GB launch model. I've had a number of problems with the system, some of which were due to not understanding how certain things are done on the system, but most have been lockups and crashing problems that I haven't been able to chase down. Right now, I'm doing a system restore with a "full" format, which takes something like three and a half hours. If this doesn't solve the problem, I'm going to be taking it back to Gamestop to exchange it.

Overall I'm pleased with the system, and I have to say if it wasn't crashing, I'd have no problems with it. It's annoying to have to resync the controller with the system every time I connect or disconnect the USB cable, and it's also annoying that the controller won't charge when the system's in standby mode. Further, I don't like that I have to disable media server functionality in the system settings in order to keep my router from crashing every time I enter or exit the XMB.

I'm looking forward to using a PS3 without these technical issues, whether it means I have to exchange this one or not.

Yes. Yes, I have.

Yep, sure. I found my receipt and brought the PS3 back. For some reason there are still issues with PixelJunk Racers, but that doesn't matter. Everything else works great. Since then, I've been picking up dirt-cheap PS1 and PS2 games right and left to fill out my collection. My newest acquisition is a copy of the original Metal Gear Solid.

replaced

Stephen has since gotten a replacement used PS3 that's working perfectly.
