Burnout Paradise Does It
When I heard that trophies weren't going to be retroactive I was a bit unhappy. When I read today that Burnout Paradise -- a game I recently bought for a song from GameFly after having rented it months ago -- was going to get trophies I realized I'd have to play it all over again to earn trophies and decided to just wait and not play it until the patch came out. But now I'm happy to report that in an official response to the PS Blog posting today Criterion has said that the trophies for Burnout Paradise will be retroactive.
This means that because your account information is stored at Criterion they will be able to award you trophies for things you've already done in the game once the patch is released. No need to re-play, and no need to wait. Get on in there and start your engines, trophy hunters!
