Capcom To Get Custom PlayStation Store For What?

capcom_176x50This week we found out that Capcom will be getting a custom-branded PlayStation Store for their own content. Apparently publishing a variety of games on the PlayStation Network gets you this level of attention, but I'm not convinced they deserve special treatment.

Capcom has walked from the PS3 for the console version of Monster Hunter, they've refused to make any of their Monster Hunter PSP games play online and still won't do online play in the next one, Monster Hunter Unity, unless it's jacked into the PS3 to link the game to each other. Unless I'm mistaken there isn't a single Capcom game with Trophy support yet. And the one game that was perfectly crafted for Trophy support via a complete set of in-game Accomplishments on the console -- Devil May Cry 4 -- has been left high and dry on the PS3. As someone who very happily played through the game thinking I'd be able to get Trophies at some point, especially given that Capcom's own network tracks what you've done and transmits it to your friends when you load up the game, this alone has left me very bitter towards Capcom.

And it's not like any of these things would really hurt Capcom and reduce sales. Frankly patching in DMC4 Trophies would trigger a surge of sales for the game. Launching something like Bionic Commando with Trophies -- something they say they will patch in someday -- would add value to the game. Adding online play to Monster Hunter Freedom does work -- I used XLink Kai to prove that -- but they refuse game after game to add it. You'd almost think that with their stubbornness to cater to the wider gaming audience that they were Sony itself.

So congratulations Capcom. I imagine by actually releasing things on the PSN you should get a pat on the head but I'd really like you to exert yourself to please me as a PS3-only console gamer and PSP-only portable gamer just a little bit more.
