Farbot: Hardware upgrades.

This server is now running on a Pentium II motherboard with a 300mhz processor, and 192mb of RAM. More RAM is on order, and it's all sitting in a brand new mid-tower case, which is shockingly light compared to the all-metal behemoths past servers have lived in.

It's already moving along at a significantly faster clip, especially here in the forum.

Many thanks to my father-in-law for donating the motherboard, CPU, and RAM.

AMD 4000

This site has been migrated to an even newer box as of today. There will be problems during our shakedown period, and some bouts of downtime, but it's quite the speedy machine:

AMD 4000 CPU
2 GB RAM

Incidentally it's living in the same light case that started this thread but with a new power supply and hard drive.

The old server's being kept around just in case we need it, and a new battery backup is en route.

P4!

Another upgrade!

Upgraded:
CPU: Pentium II 300Mhz to Pentium 4 1.5Ghz.
RAM: From 256mb to 384mb
Onboard audio to PCI Sound Blaster card.
Onboard ethernet to PCI ethernet
Onboard video to NVidia GeForce 2 card

Nothing on here should be slow with these specs!

two years

Almost two years later, a small hardware upgrade has occurred.

I mistakenly believed this server was running on a 200 or 233mhz P2, so when I migrated everything to a donated P2-300mhz system I thought I was moving up.

Upgraded:
RAM: from 192 to 256mb.
Onboard audio (but I put in the SB card anyway in case I use it)
Onboard ethernet (freeing up a card)
Onboard video (freeing up old PCI video card)
Onboard USB support (not that I need it right now)
Plastic housing to possibly more effectively cool the CPU.

Downgraded:
Case is far heavier.
Power supply is old.
Can't get this one to boot from CD-ROM for upgrades either.

Aftermath:
And now if you'll excuse me, I need to figure out how to shake the screw out of the power supply housing it fell into in the newer case.
