AdhocParty To Take Some Older PSP Games Online

psp_minnanogolf2_400x184New features on the PS3 haven't exactly been kind to older games, but the new adhocParty feature, currently only live in Japan, is going to change that trend at least when it comes to PSP titles. AdhocParty, in case you've missed the coverage so far, is basically voice chat, matchmaking and tunneling software for the PlayStation 3 that will let you connect select adhoc-multiplayer-only PSP titles to other gamers across the internet and voice chat with them using the PS3 while you play. It turns out that some older games are compatible with it.

When it was first announced, the only stated game to work with it is Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, a title that hasn't hit the US yet but is expected to do so as Monster Hunter Unity. This game is on list of 33 games that Sony has determined are compatible with the new feature of the system. Other games that I think are notable (US versions listed):

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 (already has online play)
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (I'm guessing about the subtitle from the Japanese, already has online play)
Tekken: Dark Resurrection

Not bad for the low low price of zero dollars and zero cents for those folks who have both a PS3 and a PSP. Actually that's a news item as well: Sony says half of PS3 owners also own a PSP.

No word yet on when Adhoc Party is set to reach the US.
