If you drive, you know that the price of gasoline has been rising lately and I for one can't think of why. Sure, summer is here, but we're still in the midst of some rough economic times. It looks like gas stations have gotten a memo about an economic recovery that oh, I don't know, even the economy hasn't gotten yet. Game retailers are apparently also on that mailing list, because for the past month or more the likes of Best Buy and Target have been more than happy to keep things at MSRP. Do they really think gaming is so essential that they can put prices wherever they want to?
It's gotten so bad that CheapyD actually misses having Circuit City around. You know, the now defunct mega-retailer that tried to drag CAG into court over a member's naughty actions publishing secret information on a PS3 price drop a while back?
And while a recent GamersWithJobs Conference Call extolled the virtues of vendors going all digital by citing the short-duration sales of Valve's Steam service (Stardock's Impulse does it too) I wonder what the game pricing landscape will be like when you have absolutely no competition. I don't share GWJ's rosy view.
