Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on the PSP does have multiplayer, but it's adhoc only. This weekend I took it for a spin using Adhoc Party on the PS3. I let others host so I could get an idea of what people were choosing to play, and this amounted to me walking into firefights pitting 3 or 4 of us against something very large that may or may not be a Metal Gear. The thing shown here is an example. As soon as we were underway this thing stomped into view and I leaned down to type three characters in the Adhoc Party chat box on my wireless PS3 keyboard.
:-O
My teammates didn't bat an eyelash, and they were all better prepared than me. They whipped out various heavy munitions and probably had some choice words of their own when they saw my plain old vanilla automatic rifle -- I'd left my RPG in my other pants. They proceeded to pelt this thing with rocket propelled grenades when they weren't getting stomped on. You can see it didn't enjoy the first hit, and a second is incoming on the right.
They all had body armor, and still the thing trampled them left and right. Folks ran out of rations and got knocked down for the count, and I saw someone run over and do CPR to revive a teammate -- a great feature that I immediately started doing to make myself useful. Later, in another fight, I saw someone else equip a trademark Metal Gear Solid box, but this one was painted like an ambulance and came with a siren. They slid the box over their fallen comrade and revived them right away. I need to find out how to get my R&D team to make one of those!
While I'd forgotten my RPG, I did remember my camera. This item takes a first-person-perspective screen shot, watermarks it with the game logo, and drops as a JPG into a folder on the PSP for easy access. It's another great example of Kojima's team embracing the platform fully.
What did you play this weekend?
