8.3

PostgreSQL 8.3 is now installed. I needed to change the postmaster parameters from what I had earlier to get it to run, but I'm not worried about seeing database error messages. The settings could have been in my startup script from long ago when dealing with something with past software running on the system that's no longer here.

8.2.6

We're running 8.2.6 as of this evening, which includes some security fixes for exploits that were detected during a code audit but not exploited in the wild. Kind of nice that they find these things ahead of time, isn't it?

In case you're wondering version 8.3 has hit Release Candidate 1, and they have so few items left to fix that they might not even do an RC2 release. What's in it? Hard to find just what's in there, but I dug up something hinting at higher performance and some XML querying support. More when I find it. Oh and they're so good that the 8.3 RC1 includes all of the security fixes they've put into the 8.2 series.

8.2.4

I've just completed the installation of PostgreSQL 8.2.4. Hit the link for the release notes.

8.2.3

PostgreSQL version 8.2.3 was installed yesterday afternoon. It includes a few security fixes. Version 8.2.2 came out a few days earlier, but had a bug in it corrected by 8.2.3.

8.2.1

Version 8.2.1 of PostgreSQL has been installed.

8.1.5

This server is now running the newest release of PostgreSQL, version 8.1.5.

8.1.4

PostgreSQL on this server has been upgraded to the latest version 8.1.4.

Slashdot notes that this upgrade plugs a SQL injection hole or vulnerability in the system.

8.1.3

I did a hasty reboot to activate a new kernel on the server, and followed up with what I thought would be a quick postgresql upgrade to 8.1.3, which includes some bug fixes.

I had to take a few minutes and rebuild php once postgresql was rebuilt and restored, then restart apache (2.0.55, the last 2.0 version). It took a few minutes, but is running swimmingly again.

8.1.1 to 8.1.2

During the bout of system rewrites I had installed 8.1.1. This morning, 8.1.2 appeared to fix a couple of bugs, so I've installed it. So far so good.

8.0.4

Last week the installed PostgreSQL was upgraded to 8.0.4.

Of course, just a couple of days after that 8.1.0 was released. I'll have to bring the system down again to install that upgrade, but might wait for the first point release.

7.4.7

The local install of PostgreSQL has been upgraded to the latest 7.4 version: 7.4.7. The online documentation for that version has been automatically updated.

7.4.3

Postgresql has been upgraded to version 7.4.3. Let's hear it for open source databases, yay!

7.4.1

This site's PostgreSQL database has been upgraded to version 7.4.1.

The changes are really bug fixes, and most are "fairly small". The curious may read them here:
