Impulse Buys: Titan Quest

stardock_impulse_sphereStardock's history in the PC space is very long -- in fact they just announced a new free app to organize desktop icons called Fences -- and their indie footprint in the PC gaming space is considerable thanks to the great success of the entirely DRM-free, popular game Sins Of A Solar Empire. They have their own digitial distribution system called Impulse and it has signed up a significant number of third party titles. Stardock occasionally offers discounts on games on Impulse and this weekend they have Titan Quest for just $3.99.

Not too long ago a gallon of gasoline cost that and I know I can't buy lunch for that cheap, so if hacking and slashing Diablo-style is up your alley this is an easy buy. No muss, no fuss, no CD to keep in the drive, and no DRM. (Some non-Stardock use DRM but it says so clearly on the Impuse site if they do.)

I bought Space Rangers 2 Complete from an Impulse sale recently for $3.99 as well after avoiding DRM-laced disc versions of the game for quite a while at almost ten times the price. (I'd have posted here but I noticed the sale almost an hour before it expired -- I got that lucky.) Their download application is pretty small, it's fast, and you don't have to run it to play the game, although it will automatically patch your purchased games when you do run it.
