Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G Hits 2 Million

capcom_mhp2g_logoSelling one million units in its first week wasn't quite enough for Capcom's offline, ad-hoc wifi multiplayer monster hunting expansion. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has reached the 2 million sold mark in the tiny little gaming market of Japan just 50 days into retail.

This tells me two things. One, if you live in highly dense cities with lots of people to play against local wifi games are good enough. Note that the United States is not one of those places. Two, if you can find just the right game for a particular country's mindset it will sell like crazy. Capcom's found the killer app for Japan with MHP.

Will any of the developers for the PSP in the US find a game that sells 2 million copies in the US? Apparently Daxter has sold 2 million copies (including bundled copies) but it's not clear if that's only in the US or not. Hats off to Capcom, but thinking caps on for all you other developers. The new slim PSP is selling well worldwide. The time has come for its international online multiplayer killer app. Are you up to it?

Miyamoto: Broken American Homes May Doom Wii Fit, Internet is a Fad

Okay okay, I made up his comment about the internet being a fad but it seemed to fit well here. In a recent interview with CNET, Miyamoto was unsure about how successful Wii Fit would be in the United States due to how parents in America are routinely absent from their children's lives...

Quote:
“Miyamoto noted that on average, American families are apart more often than those in Japan. A lot of families have parents who have separated or divorced, so it’s tougher to predict the role family will play in the American response to Wii Fit.”

While I do believe it's possible more Americans are divorced than Japanese, I don't know how this would have an effect on their sales of Wii Fit. I'd like to see these "averages," that Miyamoto is talking about and if his statements (if he made them at all) are based on any hard data. I'd also like to see the average number of Japanese parents that buy smelly underpants from vending machines who also own Xbox 360's. That might be Microsoft's key to success there....Miyamoto might be onto something.

Or he might be full of crap, just like this post.
