Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G Hits 2 Million

capcom_mhp2g_logoSelling one million units in its first week wasn't quite enough for Capcom's offline, ad-hoc wifi multiplayer monster hunting expansion. Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G has reached the 2 million sold mark in the tiny little gaming market of Japan just 50 days into retail.

This tells me two things. One, if you live in highly dense cities with lots of people to play against local wifi games are good enough. Note that the United States is not one of those places. Two, if you can find just the right game for a particular country's mindset it will sell like crazy. Capcom's found the killer app for Japan with MHP.

Will any of the developers for the PSP in the US find a game that sells 2 million copies in the US? Apparently Daxter has sold 2 million copies (including bundled copies) but it's not clear if that's only in the US or not. Hats off to Capcom, but thinking caps on for all you other developers. The new slim PSP is selling well worldwide. The time has come for its international online multiplayer killer app. Are you up to it?
