Bionic Commando: Rearmed

Rearmed Gets 1-Week No-Trophy-Patch Sale

bionic_commando_rearmed_notrophiesToday's PS Blog post from Bionic Commando producer Ben Judd talks up difficulty in games as a positive thing, spinning the delays for the upcoming Bionic Commando as proof that they're serious about getting the swing mechanic not just good, but hard as well. Blast Factor Gets Trophies Today

blastfactor_iconI think Blast Factor is the first PSN game I bought, and I'm pretty sure it was the first game that had online leaderboards. I distinctly remember the handful of minutes I had the top spot against my friends before those without kids and other such afternoon and evening things to keep them from playing fully pwned me. Yes, yes, I could practice again and with today's upcoming patch giving Trophies to the game and its two expansions I just might be motivated to do so.

If you never picked up Blast Factor now would be a good time considering the bundle of the game plus the two expansions is just $12.99 while the main game is $9.99. The full bundle has 25 Trophies available, and given how hard the game is I take them at their word that the challenges will be tough.

If BluePoint Games can patch Trophies into a game built on probably one of the oldest PS3 firmwares without even letting us know ahead of time, I wonder why there are publishers like, oh I don't know, let me think, Capcom taking so long to patch them in? Bionic Commando: Rearmed is still waiting for Trophies, kids. And while I know THQ has slid a bit in this economy, could we maybe get a Trophy patch for Saints Row 2, hm? Do we need to have the guys at BluePoint go show both of you guys how to code?

Attention Trophy Hounds: January Is Coming

ps3_from_dealnewsEver since PS3 Firmware 2.40 landed in late June gamers like me have looked for each title that came after it to have Trophies built in. To date almost all Trophy support has been patched in, but come January 1st every title submitted for certification will need to have Trophies (Gamespot). It looks like the six-month grace period for developers to get their older projects done is over.

There is still a bit of work to be done for those developers who have promised Trophy support. I'm looking at you Fallout 3, Age of Booty, and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Even Q Games beat you guys out the door with their PixelJunk Monsters trophy patch and they're not exactly hulking brutes of software developers. The most notable developer silence on Trophies? That would be Konami on Metal Gear Solid 4. Are they making MGS4: Existence and planning to roll them in then?

Speaking of changing play habits because of possible Trophies, can I suggest a new term for folks like me who really like to chase them down? Is Trophy hound good enough? As a family-friendly term devoid of distasteful sexual overtones I think it works. As a Trophy hound I've stopped replaying MGS4 while I wait and see what Konami is going to do, and I'm replaying GTA4 as time permits to get some Trophies. What do you think of Trophy hound?
