If You're Not Confused, It's Not A Metal Gear Trailer

Remember those Metal Gear Solid 4 trailers where you suddenly saw a young Snake slinking around the war-torn middle-eastern ruins we'd seen Old Snake sneaking about in previous trailers? Remember how they made us all scratch our heads and start guessing about time travel, or clones, or children of Snake, or even that we'd been wrong and that it's a replacement agent? Maybe the guy's after Snake? Maybe he's working with him?

Here we are again on the road to a new Metal Gear Solid title – Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP – and Kojima's crew is confusing us, exciting us, and having more than a little bit of fun with us like he always does. Look for four, count'em four soldiers that all look like Big Boss – the supposed star of the show since this game is set in the 1970s after Metal Gear Solid 3 – and buckle up because while this one seems just a little strange, I fully expect future trailers to get really out of hand.

Metal Gear Online Expansion Remembers To Make Us Smile

metalgearonline_soldierWhile I greatly enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 4 and don't regret owning it one bit, I haven't put time into the online game bundled in, Metal Gear Online. I've patched it up and I've played a quick training or two, but for something that looks so good and plays in such a well-defined and familiar universe I just haven't had the urge to play it. Granted, I'm not the average gamer anymore with my other responsibilities, but still, I do need to give it a fair shake sometime.

One thing that Konami remembers to do aside from show off the new environments, two unique characters -- Raiden and Vamp no less -- and new gear, is have a sense of humor. The realistic-feeling combat is capped with a couple of moments that give a good chuckle. The trailer for SCENE, the third expansion for MGO, is available after the jump.

Attention Trophy Hounds: January Is Coming

ps3_from_dealnewsEver since PS3 Firmware 2.40 landed in late June gamers like me have looked for each title that came after it to have Trophies built in. To date almost all Trophy support has been patched in, but come January 1st every title submitted for certification will need to have Trophies (Gamespot). It looks like the six-month grace period for developers to get their older projects done is over.

There is still a bit of work to be done for those developers who have promised Trophy support. I'm looking at you Fallout 3, Age of Booty, and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Even Q Games beat you guys out the door with their PixelJunk Monsters trophy patch and they're not exactly hulking brutes of software developers. The most notable developer silence on Trophies? That would be Konami on Metal Gear Solid 4. Are they making MGS4: Existence and planning to roll them in then?

Speaking of changing play habits because of possible Trophies, can I suggest a new term for folks like me who really like to chase them down? Is Trophy hound good enough? As a family-friendly term devoid of distasteful sexual overtones I think it works. As a Trophy hound I've stopped replaying MGS4 while I wait and see what Konami is going to do, and I'm replaying GTA4 as time permits to get some Trophies. What do you think of Trophy hound?

MGO Beta Crushing Konami ID Site

Like many others, I downloaded the MGO Beta from the UK Playstation Store last night and left my PS3 online all night to download and upload the 1.10 patch via their P2P option. I attempted to create my "Konami ID" via the Konami ID website but the site was barely responding. Konami is obviously aware of the problem, posting a message on 4/16: Read more »
